Our producer created this driving
beat with a tabla sample which he
aptly called taal. It seemed to
call on people to put their hands up
inside the party. I kept vibing the
riff with, put your hands up,
everybody; party people, lemme see
you. It felt like a close crew
going out, getting drinks and
partying. The energy of the song
seemed to pull the lyrics out from
me. |

Sexy Dancin came about on a bus
trip to Caribana 2002. Thinking
about the fetes, I couldnt get this
melody out of my head, and I kept
thinking gonna be a looooooong
night of sexy dancin. All the
lyrics flowed as I imagined a sexy
encounter ahead. |

From my travels, I have found that
although women have some
similarities, they are all so
diverse. This song was written to
describe what dem gyal really want.
It seems they want simple things and
complicated ones, simultaneously. |

Everywhere we go, there is always
one hot gyal that stands out in her
crew. Its the strand of her thong
(she meant to have it creep up over
her waist, no?) that often catches
my eye, cause, that thing is so
small, I just cant find it at all.
And message to the honies - I dont
mind looking for it. |

It has always bothered me that I see
revelers of all races, ethnicities
and color enjoying Carnival side by
side, but then when their normal
lives resume, they are back to their
rigid divides and mental separatism.
I wanted this song to bring
consciousness to the things that we
all share in common long after
Carnival ends: blood, soul, heart,
mind, sweat, tears, laughter and
love. |

This song is about being at a live
fete, watching a performer lead the
musicians and command the audience.
Its so powerful to see how the
music of Carnival feeds all the
people with livewire energy, making
everyone high. |

Around 1998, I woke up around 2 am
from a dream - I kept falling
through a twisting tunnel and there
was no way to stop, but at every
turn I kept seeing signs to all of
the answers to my questions, answers
Id been searching for. Unable to
sleep, I started recording what I
could remember into my mini
recorder. I wasnt intentionally
trying to write a song, but I was
astonished when I realized that my
recording was almost lyrically
complete. I revisited these words in
2002 and found Prophecy. |

On the bus ride to Caribana 2002, I
was inspired thinking about people
who have encouraged me over the
years. It is easy to forget to
recognize the people in your life
that are there is small ways, from
the roadies who set up the stage, to
the encouragement of friends, to the
family members who prepare the
meals. This song says reach out
today to those people who make a
difference in your life. |

This song was written by a family
friend, Bisram Bhagan, who was a
great inspiration to my music over
the years. As I was growing up this
was one of my favorite songs. When
we put the album together I
approached Uncle B to ask
permission to use his song. He
agreed, and with a few modifications
this is the result. |

This song was written under the
producers direction. We had
compiled a lot of notes on a theme
we called, Mood including ideas
for another type of ballad
altogether. As these thoughts
developed into lyrics, we realized
they fit a new title, Ecstasy. A
final suggestion to incorporate our
Indian influences lyrically and
through the music completed the
piece. Let your ears feast on the
results of this fusion. |
